BACKGROUND

Microsoft released Windows XP in 2001.

For the enterprise, it was the greatest operating system ever made.

How great?

So great that 12 years later (five lifetimes in tech)

over 30% of enterprises were still running it.

WINDOWS 8

RELEASED 2012

Wanting to increase sales of Windows 8, Microsoft decided to end support for Windows XP—globally. They told Fortune 500 CEOs that their entire operations would soon be unsecured.

But no one cared. Windows XP was so good, it continued to be the second most used OS in the world, a year after Microsoft's announcement.

SOLUTION

Our thinking was this: CEOs didn't completely understand what end of support for Windows XP meant. They didn't know that their entire enterprise would be compromised.

With no protection from hackers and viruses, things were about to heat up for our CEOs. But Microsoft didn't want to see them sweat.

So we sent CEOs an emergency sweat patch kit.
